Trail Conditions Guide

How to view and report real-time trail status

Trail Conditions Overview

The "Trail Conditions" feature is a community-driven tool designed to help hikers, runners, and cyclists know what to expect before they head out. By crowdsourcing real-time reports on trail status (dry, wet, or muddy), the app provides current insights into trail quality across forests, parks, and nature reserves.

Condition Status & Colors

When you view the map with the "Trail Conditions" layer enabled, areas are color-coded based on the most recent reports:

  • 🟢 Green (Dry): Good conditions. Trails are dry and firm.
  • 🔵 Blue (Wet): Caution advised. Trails may be damp, slippery, or have puddles.
  • 🟤 Brown (Muddy): Poor conditions. Significant mud, standing water, or risk of trail damage.

How to View Conditions

  1. Open the main Map view in the app.
  2. Tap the Layers icon.
  3. Toggle on "Trail Conditions".
  4. Browse the map to see colored shapes overlaying forests, parks, and popular riding areas.

Note: The map updates in real-time as new reports come in from the community.

How to Report Conditions

Your reports help the entire community! There are two ways to share trail status:

Automatic Prompt

After you finish recording an activity or trail, the app may automatically ask: "How were the trail conditions?"

  • Select Dry, Wet, or Muddy.
  • Optionally add a short note (e.g., "Main fire road is fine, singletrack is sticky").

Manual Reporting

You can report conditions at any time while at a location:

  1. Tap the plus (+) button on the main map.
  2. Select "Trail Conditions" (or "Report").
  3. Choose the current status.

Coverage & Accuracy

Where does it work?

The feature works worldwide but is optimized for:

  • Forests & Woodlands (e.g., Ben Shemen, Ofer Forest)
  • National Parks & Nature Reserves
  • Urban Parks
  • Open riding areas

Data Validity

  • 24-Hour Expiration: Weather changes fast. Reports are only considered valid for 24 hours. After that, the color disappears from the map until someone new reports.
  • Most Recent Wins: If multiple users report differently, the most recent report determines the displayed color to reflect the latest state.
