Available Map Types

Standard Map

The default view with:

  • Roads and paths
  • Place names
  • Points of interest
  • Clear labels

Best for: General navigation, urban areas

Satellite

Aerial imagery showing:

  • Real terrain appearance
  • Vegetation coverage
  • Water bodies
  • Building locations

Best for: Identifying landmarks, terrain preview

Terrain

Elevation-focused view:

  • Hillshading for depth
  • Elevation coloring
  • Contour lines
  • Geographic features

Best for: Hiking, understanding terrain difficulty

Topographic

Detailed outdoor map:

  • Detailed contour lines
  • Trail markings
  • Elevation points
  • Natural features

Best for: Serious hikers, backcountry navigation


Changing Map Type

  1. Tap the Layers button (stack icon)
  2. Select your preferred map type
  3. Map updates immediately

Hybrid Views

Combine satellite imagery with overlays:

  • Satellite + Labels - Aerial with place names
  • Satellite + Trails - Aerial with trail lines highlighted

Map Layers

Add information layers on top of any base map:

Trail Layer

  • Shows all mapped trails
  • Color-coded by difficulty
  • Tap for trail details

Heatmap Layer

  • Shows popular areas
  • Based on user activity
  • Find hidden gems

Weather Layer

  • Current conditions
  • Precipitation forecast
  • Wind information

Points of Interest

  • Parking areas
  • Water sources
  • Campgrounds
  • Viewpoints

Offline Map Types

When downloading for offline use:

  • Choose your preferred base map
  • Download additional types separately
  • Each type increases storage

Tip: For hiking, download both Topographic and Satellite for the best flexibility.


Map Settings

Customize map behavior:

  • Auto-rotate - Map rotates with movement
  • North up - Map always points north
  • 3D terrain - Show elevation in 3D
  • Building footprints - Show structures

Map Quality

Adjust detail level:

  • Data Saver - Less detail, faster loading
  • Normal - Balanced quality
  • High Detail - Maximum detail, more data
