Add information overlays to your maps

What Are Data Layers?

Data layers are visual overlays that add extra information to your base map without changing the underlying map type.


Available Layers

Trail Network Layer

Shows all mapped trails:

  • Trail paths in color
  • Difficulty indicators
  • Trail names on zoom

How to enable:

  1. Tap Layers button
  2. Toggle Trails on

Heatmap Layer

Visualizes activity density:

  • Red = High activity areas
  • Yellow = Moderate activity
  • Blue = Low activity

Useful for:

  • Finding popular routes
  • Discovering hidden gems
  • Avoiding crowds

Elevation Contours

Topographic contour lines:

  • 10m intervals (default)
  • 50m intervals (zoomed out)
  • Elevation labels at key points

Slope Gradient

Color-coded terrain steepness:

  • Green = Flat/Easy
  • Yellow = Moderate slopes
  • Red = Steep terrain
  • Purple = Very steep

Essential for:

  • Winter sports
  • Route difficulty assessment
  • Safety planning

Weather Radar

Live weather information:

  • Precipitation overlay
  • Cloud coverage
  • Storm tracking

Note: Weather layer requires internet connection.

Points of Interest (POI)

Mark important locations:

  • Parking
  • Water sources
  • Camping
  • Summits
  • Facilities

Managing Layers

Enable/Disable

  1. Tap the Layers button
  2. Check/uncheck desired layers
  3. Changes apply immediately

Layer Order

Active layers stack in this order (top to bottom):

  1. POI markers
  2. Weather
  3. Trails
  4. Heatmap
  5. Contours
  6. Base map

Opacity

Adjust layer transparency:

  1. Long-press a layer toggle
  2. Use the slider to adjust opacity
  3. Balance visibility with base map

Combining Layers

Some powerful combinations:

Hiking Setup:

  • Topographic base map
  • Trail network layer
  • Elevation contours
  • POI (water, camping)

Exploration Setup:

  • Satellite base
  • Heatmap layer
  • Trail network

Winter Sports:

  • Terrain base
  • Slope gradient
  • Weather radar

Performance Tips

  • Enable only needed layers
  • More layers = more data/battery usage
  • Disable weather layer offline

Offline Availability

  • Trail Network - Available offline if downloaded
  • Elevation Contours - Available offline if downloaded
  • Heatmap - Requires internet connection
  • Weather - Requires internet connection
  • POI (Points of Interest) - Cached for offline use
